After two washed out weekends, both St Michaels and Kooringal Colts are desperate to pick up four points in their clash at Robertson Oval on Saturday.
St Michaels sit a win clear of their rivals, and Lake Albert, and two points behind third-placed Wagga RSL in the compact ladder.
Colts captain Keenan Hanigan is hopeful they can join them on 18 points.
"It is a massive game for both clubs," Hanigan said.
"They are four points ahead of us now and if they beat us that puts us eight points behind and nearly wipe our season with three games left. It would make it very difficult but if we win we'll be back in the top four."
Hanigan is looking for more consistency from his side.
Meanwhile Saints captain Beck Frostick is hoping his side can bounce back from a poor Twenty20 competition.
They are winless so far this year but after a long break can't wait to get the chance to press their finals claims.
"It has been just under two months since we last played this format of cricket so we're ready," Frostick said.
"The last four games of the season are going to be like a cup final for us so we have to be prepared, be hungry and it should put us in good stead.
"We want to win as many games to play finals and if we don't get there I think it would count as a disappointing season for us."
So far both of the one-day clashes between the sides have been washed out.
While there is more rain forecast, both sides are hoping it won't be enough for it to happen a third time.
Colts head into the clash almost at full strength, with Marc Vincent (groin) the only unavailable player, however Saints have been struck a blow with spearhead Dave Garness unavailable.
Frostick hopes they can overcome the loss in their bid to regain the cup.
"It's unfortunate and a big loss but we have some good line ups in place at the moment," he said.
With the two wash outs so far, Frostick isn't too sure what to expect but is wary of the strength at the top of the Colts batting order.
"We know how powerful they are at the top of the order with Bolts and Starry (David Bolton and Hamish Starr), so if we can keep them not getting off to a flier with plenty of dot balls it gives us a good chance," he said.
