The inaugural Outback Lifesavers program plans to teach children lifesaving water safety skills for the pool and inland waterways, however there is only a limited number of spaces.
It will start with a proficiency swim test at the Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre on January 17 before the kids head to Wagga Beach on January 31 for the first of nine sessions.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Royal Life Saving NSW project coordinator Renee Amidy said the importance of introducing young people to different aquatic environments is crucial to developing important skills around the water.
"As children grow, they become exposed to a range of recreational water activities including surfing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting and water skiing," she said.
"Outback Lifesavers is all about being active and having fun and we strongly encourage parents and carers with children between 8-13 years of age to utilise their Active Kids Voucher and Get Involved."
Parents can register their child at the Royal Life Saving NSW website.
