NSW RFS operational officer Angela Burford said that more than 30 trucks and a water-bombing aircraft helped contain a blaze on Hancocks Lane by about 7.20pm on Saturday night.
It burnt through more than 200 hectares of grassland and timber, requiring multiple brigades from Wagga, Coolamon and Junee to attend.
"That fire escalated quite quickly. It was running in grassland and some timber areas and we had multiple crews assisting for sometime," she said.
"There will still be some smoke visible today, maybe as far as the Wagga township."
Ms Burford said firefighters patrolled the area from Saturday night into Sunday to ensure the fire remained extinguished.

"We were lucky it was burning in a paddock and no immediate threat to properties by way of houses," she said.
"Obviously in those remote areas the loss can be fences and livestock, but no properties came under threat due to the great work of the firefighters on the ground."
