That's the mentality of Chris Ayton and Kyle Harrison who will join forces as a first grade coaching duo again with Lake Albert next season.
The pair replace Mitch Tinnock after a successful three year tenure which included an unbeaten premiership in 2018 and a grand final appearance last year.
Ayton coached the Sharks reserves to the 2019 title and this year's grand final. He combined with Harrison to coach Tolland in 2017, and also did the Wolves job on his own in 2014.
"We're good mates. We play at different ends of the pitch with him being a striker and me a defender, so we both have a different forte in the coaching side of things," Ayton said.
"It's not something that happens a lot (dual coaching) but when you've tried to coach a team on your own, it's quite difficult.
"Most clubs will have one or two assistant coaches, but we decided to have dual coaches and I don't think anyone needs to be classed higher than the other."
Ayton said he would continue to play reserve grade before stepping up to coach in Pascoe Cup.
"I'll still play reserve grade and have been coaching them for a couple of years. With some of those kids coming through, I've been spending a fair bit of time with them and definitely one of them will make the step up."
Tinnock said he recommended to the club that Ayton should be his successor.
"It's been a good three years but I thought it's probably time for a fresh start (at the club) otherwise things get stale," he said.
"I think Chris is ready to go and he's really keen, and he's going to be good for the position.
"I'll still be around if anyone needs any help, but it's good to release the pressure of making the decisions and organising the training.
"He's tactically very strong and also very good at communicating with the team and knowing what's needed to get the job done.
"I think he's just a really good fit and he and Kyle work well together.
"I always thought he (Ayton) would be the next man to do the job and I told Andrew (Manton, president) he should be the guy to take the job next."
Harrison said he was looking forward to reinvigorating his partnership with Ayton.
"We've both had a similar background down the coast playing, it just clicked and we've never had any arguments," Harrison said.
"He's really good at defensive work and I help out up top, it works perfect.
"Now I'm getting the boots off and focusing on helping the boys out, I think we can get it working well.
"I've decided I won't play any more after this year."
