POLICE have charged a 47-year-old man over the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl near Wagga last week.

A police investigation was launched last week after reports a 16-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by a man, who is known to her, at a home near Wagga.
The State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad inquiry led detectives to a home where they arrested the man just before 3pm on Sunday.
Police say the man was taken to Wagga Police Station and charged with carry out sexual act with another without consent and two counts of sexually touch another person without consent.

He was refused bail to appear at Wagga Local Court on November 2.
Superintendent Bob Noble said the charges were "very serious", and that it was not yet known whether there were other victims.
"A 47-year-old man was arrested yesterday following reports received on Friday that a 16-year-old victim had been sexually assaulted," Superintendent Noble said.
"That 47-year-old was charged with a number of very serious matters, as you can appreciate."
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
