Nine-year-old Footmark is one of the more senior thoroughbreds presently racing in the region, while year younger Vinnie Vega also shows no signs of slowing down.
Footmark is a last start winner at Albury and will return to racing after not appearing for seven weeks, while Vinnie Vega also goes in fresh after nine weeks without a start.
The comparisons for the senior statesmen don't end there with Vinnie Vega and Footmark both noted performers at Albury where they are trained.
Footmark has won five of his nine starts at Albury, while Vinnie Vega's records reads 11 starts for five wins.
Taking it a step further, apprentice jockey Danielle Scott will ride both reducing their weights to a more competitive mark after her three-kilogram allowance.
Vinnie Vega's trainer Kym Davison has a soft spot for his old warrior whose first start for him dates back to June, 2015.
"He has been a great horse and these next few starts at Albury will decide where we go with him," Davison said.
"There are some suitable races coming up and if he can show he can still be competitive he will keep going."
The track is rated as a soft 7 which is ideal for both gallopers, especially Vinnie Vega.
"Some of his recent starts have been on heavy 10 rated tracks and he didn't go well in the conditions," Davison said.
"I backed off him after his latest start with these races at Albury in mind and the way the track is rated at the moment is fine for him.
"His benchmark rating has come down a bit and with the apprentice's claim he is in well with 62.5 kilograms over the 900 metres.
"He goes best at Albury and his work has been stepped up over the last few weeks with these races coming up in mind."
Footmark will still have to carry 61 kilograms after Scott's claim in the Eliza Thompson Cup (1600m).
Despite not having raced since winning with Scott aboard on a heavy 10 track on August 18, Footmark can do it again, according to his trainer Jodie Bohr.
"I can't see why he can't win again. He comes off these little breaks and he is able to keep doing it (winning)," Bohr said.
Footmark is something of a racing comeback story surviving three tendon injuries to keep his career going.
"There is only one tendon he hasn't done and thanks to my partner, Ross Spalding, he has put a lot of work into his legs to keep him right," she added.
"He loves racing at Albury and I believe he can win again the way he has been going."
