Many doubted whether the season would get to the finish line but it did as Wagga Tigers downed Leeton-Whitton by 21 points to claim the AFL Riverina Championship at Robertson Oval on Saturday.
A crowd of 1511 scanned into Robertson Oval to enjoy grand final day after 1609 tickets were sold under AFL Riverina's major facility COVID safety plan.
Flanigan was pleased with the way grand final day unfolded and paid credit to AFL Southern NSW staff and the AFL Riverina board.
"Yeah it was great. It's a credit to Gep (Marc Geppert), Tommy (Walker), Michael (Irons) and the board, and all the clubs that participated," Flanigan said.
"It's a credit to everybody. We just had to keep going until they told us we couldn't and we got through."
Flanigan admitted he was glad they made the decision to push on with the one-off competition back in July, when the season was almost shut down due to the withdrawal of 13 clubs.
"Absolutely. We copped a bit of flak, we copped a lot of questioning but it was good in the end to get through and enjoy the day," he said.
"There's no hard feelings and we fully understand the reasons behind the clubs that didn't want to play but there were six that did and we're glad that we pushed ahead and provided a season for them."
