Initially told they would not be allowed into Queensland due to COVID-19 related border restrictions, the Langborne family feared they would be left to grieve from a distance.
But after backlash from the public, the family will be able to enter the state by the end of the week.
Mark Kean was told he likely won't live to see Christmas this year following a terminal brain cancer diagnosis.

The 39-year-old spent many of his young years in the Riverina town of Ganmain where he attended Saint Brandan's Primary School and Coolamon Central School.
The Queensland Government made the exception to allow Mr Kean's family into Queensland as of midnight on Friday to say goodbye.
They will be under strict rules of quarantine and be escorted during the visit.
