It was a weekend to remember for Heywood just gone, as he enjoyed two satisfying victories in two days, one at Griffith on Saturday and the other at Dubbo on Sunday.

For the second consecutive year, Heywood struck success with Blitzar at the Dubbo Cup meeting. This time, the promising four-year-old scored an impressive victory in the $50,000 Country Magic Showcase Class Two Handicap (1100m).

It was Blitzar's third win of his nine-start career, as he trounced his rivals by two and three quarter lengths in slick time.

"He just showed what he is really capable of when everything goes right," Heywood said.

"He's above average, and that was a Highway type class race. I was super impressed with him, he deserved it. He's got natural ability and the key factor was putting the blinkers on.

"To see him do what he did (on Sunday) justified my faith in him as a horse."

Heywood will weigh up his options with Bliztar before he decides where to head next.

"We'll let the dust settle and see what happens," he said.

Blitzar's win came on the back of a successful trip to Griffith, where Landmine enjoyed his first win since November 2018.

Landmine came from last to win the Yenda Producers Benchmark 58 Handicap (1000m) for Richard Bensley, in what was just his third start since falling in last year's Country Championships heat at Albury.

It took the seven-year-old's record to 19 starts for five wins.

"Obviously for what he's been through, injuries and the fall in the Championships heat and everything like that, it was satisfying, there's no two doubts about that," he said.

"Any horse that can win five from 19 and a heap of placings with all the stuff that's gone wrong with him, he's got ability."

With next year's Country Championships heat five months away, there is the option to put Landmine away for another crack at the $150,000 qualifier.

Heywood said that option was unlikely but had not been ruled out.

"It's not to be ruled out but I'd be confident that the owners are keen to keep going," he said.

Heywood hopes to continue his good form at Corowa on Tuesday.

He will scratch Blitzar and Fifty Carats, leaving Perfect Sun and Night Terror as his representatives in two of the maiden events.

"I have a lot of time for the filly (Perfect Sun). I was super happy with her first run," he said.

"She's bred to get a trip and I think she will. Stepping up to the 1400 is a big plus for her, but it's a strong enough race though too.

"You will see an improved run from Night Terror because she's drawn a gate. She seems to race well when she draws a gate."

Wagga apprentice jockey Josh Richards will take the ride on both horses at Corowa.
