The 29-year-old is one of the rare few players still in the side for their last finals win in 2015, but feels the team is peaking at the right time of the season this time around.
"The trick is putting it all together," Richens said.
"It will be hard with the Tumuts and the Gundagais having the same team for half a dozen years now - they know what they have to do and are already set with the structures.
"But we just have to piece it together."
Richens has been used off the bench by coach Nick Hall in the second half of the shortened season but is confident Young has the stocks to keep going this season as the club looks to end a 29-year title drought.
Young are yet to down a top three opponent this season, but they did lead Brothers 18-0 at Equex Centre last month before conceding the next 32 points.
The Wagga side stands in their way of a preliminary final appearance.
However Josh McCrone has come into the side since then and Richens believes the former NRL player has helped Young go to another level.
"I think it is going good and especially with Josh coming on board I think everyone has a bit more confidence," Richens said.
"He is a calm voice that we needed and everyone is listening and understanding that we can go it.
"Everyone is feeling pretty excited, keen and confident."
Young come into their clash with Brothers after three consecutive wins to snare fourth place.
Richens is looking for a more complete performance.
"We thought we had it in the bag and got a bit comfortable and were a bit shocked when they stuck it back to us so we just have to compete," he said.
Both Nic Hall and Tom Jenkins didn't complete the 62-4 win over Junee on Sunday with groin complaints.
However both young guns will be given until game day to prove their fitness and will be named in the side.
"I'll know more on Friday but have some back up options," Hall said.
