They were one of three teams to finish the shortened season with just one win, along with Southcity and Junee, however after the Diesels were thrashed by Young on Sunday they finished with their worst points differential.
Despite a 38-16 loss to Brothers in the final round of the season, captain-coach Hayden Ashcroft believes there are plenty of positives to take from 2020.
"I think we are close," Ashcroft said.
"We grinded and I don't think the final score was a reflection of how the game went.
"It was in the balance for a while there.
"It would have been great to finish with a win but in terms of where we are at as a club and where we are headed I think there are plenty of positives."
A 18-12 loss on Saturday was the club's first loss in the Weissel Cup so far this season, their leaguetag side has only lost once and their reserve grade outfit took a 28-16 win over finals bound Brothers to finish their season.
Ashcroft believes it bodes well for the club.
"From a club's perspective I think we are on the right page and we are heading in the right direction," he said.
"Next year will be a big year for us as a club.
"Things aren't going to happen overnight so you've got to be patient and what I wanted to implement this season was a bit of professionalism and a foundation moving forward.
"We've got such a young side and I wanted them to start believing in themselves.
"We're off the mark at the moment but I think we will be thereabouts next year and I would love to see what is going to happen in the next two years."
After returning to his junior club as captain-coach this season, Ashcroft is undecided on his future.
