Scoring just their fifth win in the past five seasons, and first since 2018, Reddies came away with the points from an entertaining clash at Jarrah Oval.
Only five points separated the two sides in their earlier meeting this season, however coach Paul Hood was thrilled with how the side put it all together for the 41-33 victory.
"It was brilliant," Hood said.
"It's really excellent and the guys really did dig deep in that game."
CSU have struggled for wins since claiming the non defunct second tier title in 2015.
However Hood hopes the breakthrough can help their efforts to becoming a much more competitive outfit after also winning second grade.
"We've got really good numbers at training now and the club is starting to turn back into what it used to be," he said.
"It is really positive."
Tumut opened the scoring before CSU scored the next three tries.
However the Bulls scored either side of the break to get the lead back before Reddies responded once again with another three straight tries enough to put them on the path to victory.
With games against Tumut and Waratahs to come Hood is looking for a big finish to help build into next season.
"There are no more excuses as that was the best side we could put on the paddock," he said.
"I think that side is competitive, maybe not against City at this stage, but I think we will be competitive against Tahs and Tumut in the next two games we've got.
"I'm expecting two wins as I think we've turned the corner and are on the way."
Fetongi Tuinauvai impressed in his first game for the club while Luke Seruwaqa was damaging once more.
Reigning Bill Castle Medal winner Liam Krautz continues to play a big role on and off the field after joining the club this season.
Despite the win CSU remain on the bottom of the ladder, one point behind Tumut, but have a chance to go around their rivals when they face off again after the bye.
Meanwhile Wagga City extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 47-22 win over Waratahs at Conolly Rugby Complex.
It was the first time in four games the ladder leaders had conceded a try but they shortened their odds of securing a drought-breaking premiership in the grand final preview by posting another big score.
Noa Rabici scored a hat-trick in the win.
The two sides face off against each other next week in the lead up to the grand final on September 26.
