The vehicle, a red or maroon 2016 model Lexus, was stolen during one of two armed robberies at midnight in the Wagga Botanic Gardens carpark yesterday.
A 47-year-old man was the first victim to be assaulted, threatened and robbed of his phone and wallet, while a second vehicle with two 21-year-olds was also hit, having their belongings and car stolen.
Officers from the Riverina Police District sighted the stolen vehicle yesterday on Fernleigh Road about 11am and commenced a pursuit.
"Police did engage in a pursuit with this vehicle yesterday after directing it to stop and it instead left the scene," Inspector Adrian Telfer said.
"Police chased the vehicle through Wagga around Glenfield Park, Turvey Park and Ashmont, but due to safety concerns the pursuit was discontinued."
The stolen vehicle was last seen on Railway Street about 11.30am.
In other news:
The offenders are believed to be three males in their 20s, and Inspector Telfer said anyone with information should come forward.
"If you do see this red or maroon coloured Lexus around town, call triple zero, but most importantly do not approach the vehicle," he said.
"There is every chance that vehicle is still in the Riverina or Wagga."
Inspector Telfer said the victims are understandably shaken.
"Those victims were confronted with a horrible situation, and are fairly traumatised by this incident," he said.
"We don't believe their whereabouts was suspicious or unusual, they were just going about their business, and police have been dealing with them for the past 24 hours."
The stolen vehicle's registration is a black and white NSW plate, displaying DFU 06D.
