A Fire and Rescue spokesman said its crews were called to Ladysmith to support the Rural Fire Service at 4.40am after being notified of a fire in a large hay and machinery shed.
"There were about 200 bales of hay alight in a steel shed ... and other minor farm machinery in the shed at the same time," he said.
In other news:
The spokesman said the main part of the firefighting operations took about two hours, however the hay will continue to smolder in the days ahead.
"It is tightly compacted in the shed and we will have to get someone to put it all out," he said.
This will require either RFS or Fire and Rescue crews to return to the scene over the next couple of days to put more water as the hay is spread out.
