Wagga High upstaged The Riverina Anglican College (TRAC) 3-0 in the schoolgirls decider.

Cochrane, a year eight student, was in brilliant form and produced two cracking strikes to send Wagga High into half-time with a 2-0 lead.

Marwa Sulaiman completed the win with a goal early in the second half.

Cochrane was awarded the Tiffany Selby Medal for the player of the grand final as Wagga High took home the Shield for the first time since 2011.

TRAC defeated Wagga High 3-1 in the pool games but were able to reverse the result when it counted. Wagga High School coach Michael Dare was thrilled with the performance.

"It's a great win. It wasn't a real surprise but we thought TRAC were the team to beat," Dare said.

"We brought in the team and we spoke about what we had to do, every player had to play their role and if they did that, we could come out with a competitive game and a win so we did that and it was good.

"They worked as a team, we saw our opportunities and we hit it forward and off those we took our chances and that's all we needed to do.

"The scoreline, well we couldn't believe that but it was just from those opportunities I guess and everyone working the whole time."

While Cochrane was the star up front, goal keeper Charlotte Waring was equally as important at the other end of the ground.

Perry Nash, Maryam Gardner and Amy Cowell also had strong games.

Dare was happy to have the school back at the top as Shipard Shield champions.

"I think I came to this school in 2010 and we had a great team then and it's been a lot of years of taking big losses," he said.

"Then to come and form a younger team, there's not many year 12s in the team so it's good for the future as well. I think next year we can be just as strong and keep moving from there."
