Southcity are in the sights of Brothers after they got their Group Nine campaign off to a winning start with a 30-10 victory over Kangaroos last Saturday.
Another all-Wagga clash looms for Brothers against Southcity this Saturday and it's the unofficial title of Wagga's premier rugby league club that new captain-coach Cameron Breust wants to take from the Bulls.
Southcity have played off in seven of the last nine Group Nine grand finals, winning three premierships in the process.
Breust is keen for Brothers to step up and take over from the Bulls, beginning with Saturday's cross-town battle at Harris Park.
"They've obviously been the dominating Wagga team for years and years so we want to be competitive against them and obviously we want to be that dominating team in Wagga going forward," Breust said.
Southcity had the bye in round one and have experienced a big changeover in personnel heading into the shortened season.
"They're obviously going to be quite tough," Breust said.
"They're going to be a bit of an unknown because they've had a few changes from last year but we're obviously expecting them to be as tough as ever.
"Their captain-coach, Nathan Rose, he's a brilliant player so when he's in a team, they're going to be dangerous."
Brothers will go into the clash without centre Edan Price, who tore his hamstring in the win over Kangaroos last Saturday.
Breust was devastated for the young centre.
"It looks like he's tore his hamstring, which is quite frustrating because he fit into that centre position well," he said.
"He did so well in pre-season so to lose him in the first game, and it looks like its a bad one, is a big loss for us."
Brothers are weighing up their options for a replacement for Price and will come to a decision later in the week.
Breust was impressed with his new-look team in their opening hit-out with front-rowers James Hay, Brayden Sharrock and Hayden Philp all having a big impact.
Chris Maher and Dylan McLachlan were others to impress the new Brothers leader.
"It was great. Obviously first game I was feeling very nervous but to get the monkey off the back straight away, especially against our rivals in Kangaroos, it was a great start," he said.
"We had some new combinations, which worked really well.
"We definitely didn't do anywhere near an 80 minute performance so the pleasing this is that we still won comfortably but there's still a lot of work to do obviously."
