Wagga's prestigious school sports competitions are set to go ahead in 2020 after all, following an agreement between the city's schools on Thursday night to bring sport back in term three, with or without spectators.

The Combined Wagga Wagga High Schools Sports Association said they're happy they'll be able to provide students, particularly those in year 12, with the opportunity to represent their schools in their chosen sports.
The traditional autumn tournaments of Carroll Cup Australian rules, Hardy Shield rugby league and Tracey Gunson netball competition looked like going by the wayside in 2020 as victims of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, provided restrictions allow for it, they'll be part of a busy next term.
The Creed and Shipard Shield soccer events will kick it off early, followed by Hardy Shield in mid-August and Carroll Cup at the start of September.
The netball will be in late August, between Preston-Butcher Cup touch football and hockey which, like soccer, is a regular third term carnival.
The CWWHSSA said at this point, the competitions are planned to go ahead without crowds but will be reviewed if school and government restrictions are eased.
But the decision allows the schools to begin planning the competitions with the respective sports and grounds.
Kildare Catholic College beat arch-rivals Mater Dei Catholic College in the Hardy Shield, the Carroll Cup land the Tracey Gunson Shield last year.
