Temora product Hayden Philp linked with Leeton last season but with their competition not going ahead due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis the talented lock is eyeing off a new move to one of the three Wagga clubs.
Philp finished in the top three of the Weissel Medal count in 2017 and 2018 before winning Group Nine's best and fairest award last season.
The 23-year-old just wants to play rugby league.
"I just want to keep fit rather than just sit at home and do nothing," Philp said.
"It will be good to play footy and get the ball in your hands."
Heading back to play for Temora would have been the obvious choice before they withdrew from the competition.
He wasn't made contact with any former Dragons teammates but Philp has already received interest from four Group Nine clubs.
With the travel from Leeton, Philp expects to opt for one of the closest options in Wagga.
"I'll still deciding but I've had a few phone calls over the last couple of days," he said.
"With the travel a couple of days a week I'm probably looking at one of the Wagga clubs if I were to go anywhere."
Philp captained the Greens last season, who would have celebrated their centenary in 2020, but doesn't expect too many teammates to follow him to Group Nine.
"I haven't spoken to too many and they've got the Aussie Rules who will still be playing here so I think a few of them will probably stay in Leeton," he said.
"I think a couple of the Fijians might help out a few of the reserve grade sides in the Group Nine comp but we only just got the news we were definitely out."
With Group Nine bucking the trend by signalling they will go ahead this year Philp isn't expected to be the only late addition to the remaining eight teams.
Groups 10,11 and 20 have all decided against having a competition this season while the Canberra Raiders Cup competition is also in doubt.
Their delayed eight-round season starts on July 18.
