Riverina Police District Commander Superintendent Bob Noble reminded the public that such notes do exist, and to be observant.
"From time to time, we do find counterfeit notes circulating, and to nail them down as being related to any particular matter is difficult to say, but they do circulate and tend to be found in batches," he said.
Police located and seized counterfeit cash from a home in Wagga yesterday during a drug bust, but Superintendent Noble did not confirm if the money was linked.
"At the current time, there is not much cash changing hands anyway with COVID-19 hygiene arrangements, so it's probably not the smartest idea for criminals to be passing around counterfeit notes anyway," he said.
"I encourage people to let us know straight away if you do find such notes and we will seize any of those and have them examined."
