The four-year-old ensured he meet the criteria for the region's first group one of any code with another strong win at Riverina Paceway on Friday.
Western Sonador made it four wins from five starts for Coleambally couple Ellen Bartley and Blake Jones despite finding himself in an awkward position during the
"We rolled the dice a bit and went for a bit of luck," Jones said.
"It was looking a bit ugly at the 800 but we got out and he got home and got the good done."
The first heats of the series are on May 8 with Jones expecting Brooklyns Best and Rocky Branach to join Western Sonador.
Western Sonador is rated one of the best chance for the altered series, which concludes on May 22, alongside West Wyalong Cup winner Whereyabinboppin.
Jones is confident he can more than match it with the leading hopes.
"He probably hasn't been as impressive as Whereyabinboppin was last week but he has done everything we've asked off him," he said.
"The draw is going to play a fair part and if the other fella draws to get the front he is going to be really hard to catch but if we draw better than him we will definitely make a race off it."
His win was part of a double for Bartley and Jones after Legends Last brought up another win.
The seven-year-old took 17 starts to bring up his first win last month, in what was his third start for the stable, but he's tasted success twice more since then.
His latest win in a career best mile rate of 1:56.3 came as a surprise.
"When I pulled the big fella out he surprised me with how he loomed up to them pretty easy and got past them," Jones said.
"I was pretty pumped about him."
