New regional manager Marc Geppert was as pleased with the carnival atmosphere as the crowd figures of 3377 on Saturday and 6556 on Sunday.
There might have been room for more but Robertson Oval was comfortably filled for the grand final rematch between Greater Western Sydney and Richmond.
"It's really good. It's just that whole festival of footy atmosphere that we've built up over the weekend, it's fantastic," Geppert said.
Officials had been rapt when Wagga was given a marquee game - particularly since the Canberra Raiders' arrival with NRL competition games in the city last year - and the standard and speed of the men's pre-season game didn't disappoint.
"To have the likes of Jack Riewoldt, Dusty Martin, Jeremy Cameron, Toby Greene running around at Robertson Oval, coupled with the AFLW and the whole double-header weekend... it's great from a code perspective, but we've just been absolutely stoked with how the clubs have interacted and how the community's got behind this weekend," Geppert said.
Free entry for Saturday's AFLW competition game, as well as training sessions for the men's teams, was an ideal start.
"There was plenty of kids and it was great to see so many young girls getting around in their Giants gear and face-paint," Geppert said.
"It just had a really good vibe and a game like that is going to do massive things for female footy."
A little over 6000 attended Wagga's last pre-season game, between Collingwood and North Melbourne in 2016.
Under 4000 went to GWS v West Coast in Narrandera the following year.
