The Mirrool horseman hopes Major Roll can add the $10,200 Coolamon feature to their Junee Pacers Cup success in January.
The consistent four-year-old has won 14 of 25 starts.
Maguire hopes a disappointing ninth in the Canberra Cup last start was just an aberration, with Major Roll recovering well and trialling twice at West Wyalong since.
"I don't know what went wrong at Canberra," Maguire said. "I took him down last year for the derby and he went exactly the same. But he pulled up well, he ate up and his work's been good since... he's going alright."
Maybe the Major just doesn't like Canberra.
The gelding hasn't had a race start at Coolamon, but trialled there three times in a brilliant two-year-old season, in which he claimed the Breeders Plate at Leeton and a Group Three Breeders Challenge final at Bathurst.
"He's just been a nice horse. I've had better horses than him but he's been able to earn and there have been nice races to place him in," Maguire said.
Major Roll has drawn gate nine for the Redbank Lodge Standardbreds Coolamon Pacers Cup (2200m). Maguire believes it's a very even field in the feature event of a big 10-race meeting.
Many of their rivals are also off the back row including Bruce Harpley's Griffith Cup winner Rubies For Tash (barrier 10) which was placed in Group Two company in December in Dubbo's Red Ochre Classic.
Michael Hawke's Never Been Said (barrier eight) is a last-start winner at Wagga and won at Canberra early in the summer while Onthestraitenarrow returns for trainer Chris Hughes. The eight-year-old gelding placed twice in two starts last August. They are his only race starts since winning six of eight races in late 2017 before injury forced a 20-month layoff.
Hellen Scott has Braedos Babe and Yourockanna starting from the inside gates of the front row while Maguire hopes the early speed of Rockita (barrier three) will open a path for Major Roll to get into the race.
The first at Coolamon is at 12.44pm with the Pacers Cup scheduled for 4.30pm.
