Two heavy vehicles were involved in the accident near the River Road turn-off, with both drivers walking away from the incident uninjured, Fire and Rescue NSW said.
The huge clean-up saw the highway closed between Forest Hill and River Road, near Alfredtown, for around 12 hours.
The Sturt Highway was reopened around 5.30am on Tuesday, however traffic will be limited to a 60km/h, the NSW Transport Management Centre advised.
Anyone travelling through the area is urged to exercise caution.
UPDATE 8.30pm:
Turvey Park Fire and Rescue crews are working to recover oil due for recycling after the incident involving two heavy vehicles along the Sturt Highway
The Fire and Rescue team reported no one was injured as a result of the accident, and the remaining oil was recovered to prevent further spills.

The Sturt Highway has been closed in both directions due to an oil spill near Alfredtown, east of Wagga.
The spill was reported at 5.58pm Monday, February 3 as emergency services and Transport NSW attend the scene.
Diversions are in place through Tumbarumba Road, Gregadoo East Road and Elizabeth Avenue for motorists travelling west, and the reverse for those travelling east.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible as heavy traffic conditions continue to build up.
At this stage, information surrounding the cause of the spill is unknown.
