As the bell tolled to signal the first official day, the largest intake of kindergarten students ever to walk the grounds of North Wagga Public School filed into their classrooms.

Number 48 in total, the students make up three classes - including one composite with year 1.
"The last time we did that, the classes weren't as big, this time they're practically full," said principal Trudy Standley.
"We're only a couple students off making another class altogether."

The kindergarten classes are not the only year group to be busting at the seams either, with the school welcoming up to 282 students across the school.
That is the largest student population the school has ever had, and Ms Standley said, it could continue to climb.
"We had one little boy come in at 4.30 on Friday afternoon to enroll [into kindergarten]," she said.
"You never know, there could be more."
But while the foreshadowed development of two new schools in Estella and Boorooma might impact their numbers in years to come, the principal believes the school's steeped history will also be a strong drawing card.
"We do have a beautiful culture here, we're welcoming and nurturing and there's honestly no other place I'd want to be."
