Opening the batting at Rawlings Park, Thompson top scored with 88 as the Cats finished their 40 overs at 8-220.
He and Aaron Maxwell (34) put on but Thompson was also thrilled with Nick Cawley (31 not out) and Blake Walker (28) to help to get them to a big total late.
"It is also nice to go at six plus an over in the first 10, it always sets you up for a good day, and while we lost of a few in clumps just before drinks and after drinks I thought Blake Walker and Nick Cawley did a fantastic job late in the innings to get us to the 220 mark," Thompson said. "It was 20 more runs than we wanted."
Thompson then took two wickets as Lake Albert were bowled out for 192.
Thompson struck early but was pleased with how the team responded after Ryan Jamieson (28) and Sam Smith (40) started to make some headway in the middle of their innings.
"We probably could have bowled them out a lot quicker if we held our catches, we dropped three in the first six overs," he said.
"Those catches go to hand the game could have been completely different, but it was good to take the early wickets, they did fight hard but it was good to rebuild pressure back on them."
Cats are now looking to repeat the dose in Monday night's Twenty20 clash with St Michaels.
