The St Kilda recruit is back at home for the break but it didn't stop him bring supplies to friends trying to deal with the bushfire crisis during the week.
After moving to Melbourne following the November trade period, the 23-year-old feels like he's settling into the new club environment.
"It's all going really well," Howard said.
"I'm really enjoying my time at the club so far.
"It was a pretty solid month of training pre-Christmas but they've been really welcoming and the club has been really good with bringing myself and all the other new players in.
"I'm really really happy with the move and hopefully I can have a big 2020."
Howard is part of a big group of incoming players at the Saints after a busy trade period.
He believes there is plenty to get excited for St Kilda fans with the likes of Max King and Jack Bytel.
"It's a really good footy club with a lot of history and culture behind it," Howard said.
"I'm trying to learn all of that and really take off from the past players who have been before me.
"It seems like a really good group with a long of young talent coming through which is exciting for the future.
After playing 45 AFL games, including one as stand-in captain, with Port Adelaide since making his debut in 2016 Howard was allowed to explore his options.
It saw him land at St Kilda and Howard admitted he was after a fresh start.
"I think it will be the right move for me"," Howard said.
"I really like the playing group and the coaching group we've got.
"Hopefully I can slide into the starting side and play some consistent AFL footy this year."
The 23-year-old has been used at both ends of the ground, plus in the ruck, for the Power however he is expected to be part of the Saints back six for 2020.
"I'll play predominately in the back line and definitely went there as a backman but if the opportunity arises to still be flexible in my role, whether it is up forward or in the ruck, whatever the team needs I'm happy to do," Howard said.
