After months of rehearsal, Erin Brown says it felt amazing to finally have the event come together on stage.
"It is wonderful to look out and see the community out there, especially in such a difficult time with the drought and fires on everyone's minds," she said.
Ms Brown said it was her sixth year performing at Christmas Carols in the Park, so there was no doubt that she "really loves" carols.
"I love seeing everyone come together. To see the community participate and sing along and the children dancing," she said.
However, she said this year was particularly special.
"It is the first year where we have live animals involved. So we are going all out," she said.
UPDATE 8PM
Linley Elliot, who is 11 years old, was one of the singers from tonight's carols.
She said it was amazing to have the chance to sing in front of an audience in the choir.
Linley said sing in a group required a lot of practice in the lead up to Christmas Carols in the Park.
Her favourite song was Angels because it sounded really beautiful with the choir sing different parts together.
Linley's friends Nevaeh and Joet Collier were there to watch.
Joet, who is also 11 years old, said she loved Christmas because it was a chance to spend time with family and friends.
She said she was going to spend Christmas day with cousins and hopefully opening a lot of Harry Potter presents.
UPDATE 7.30PM
Here Comes Santa Claus and Silent Night are the crowd favourites for sisters Abbey and Emelia Weise.
Abbey, 17, and Emelia, 11, said the highlight of carols is always spending time with their family and listening to the fantastic singing.
While Abbey hopes to receive a disposable camera from Santa, an alarm clock tops her sister's wish list.
UPDATE 7PM
The opportunity to spend the festive season with family and friends was on the mind of many parents today.
Tracey Taylor, of Brookdale, said the annual Christmas Carols in the Park was an event that her family could experience together.
"Christmas is all about socialising and relaxing with family, exchanging present and enjoying lots of food," she said.
Jayne Nicholl said her favourite aspect about carols was spending time with her family and friends.
Ms Nicholl said she was looking forward to Christmas morning the most and watching the excitement on her son Angus' face.
UPDATE 6.30PM
As families gathered at the Victory Memorial Gardens, the Stewart twins Madelyn and Darcy were most excited about watching their mum Michelle perform on stage.
Darcy said her mum has been practicing her carols a lot in the lead up to the big day.
She said her favourite Christmas carol was Jesus Christ is Born Today.
Both Darcy and Madelyn agree that Christmas was all about the birth of Jesus.
The eight year old girls are hoping to find a guinea pig under their Christmas tree next week.
