Education officer Ben Holt said the event had been a great success.
"We had great numbers, and we were thrilled with how many people came," he said.
"One of the most pleasing things was seeing how many smiles were around the place.
"The atmosphere was exactly what we hoped for with kids running around engaging with what was in their natural environment."
Mr Holt said research shows when children are immersed in nature, they are healthier, so that was a focus when creating the nature play area.
"It was the first time it had been used, and they were interacting with the space in ways we had not thought of," he said.
"That nature play area is based on really recent research into the value of children's play.
"Just seeing the smiles on the kids and seeing the way parents were able to connect was amazing."

"It was a win in all regards."
