Members of Wagga's Shinwa-Kai Karate Club claimed three gold medals, three silver and one bronze at Sydney Olympic Park earlier this month.
Experienced athlete Hana Sawal led the charge, winning the state championship in the advance 14-15 years form events, winning praise from spectators and instructors alike.
She also won silver in the traditional weaponry 13-17 years.
Her younger twin sisters, Safiah and Jamilah, also shone. Safiah showed her mastery in sai to upstage many older competitiors and win gold in the under 13 traditional weaponry.
Not to be outdone by her sisters, Jamilah performed her unshu kata with gusto, focus and technical competence to win gold in the 10-11 years forms event.
Bradley McCrea claimed silver in the 12-13 years forms event with his performance of the anan kata, while Aiden Bretts grabbed silver in the eight-nine years forms event.
His father Jeffrey also won a bronze medal with a strong performance of his anan kata.
Wagga's Shinwa-Kai Karate Club coach Sawal Salleh is extremely proud of the group's achievements.
"All the club's competitors have been putting hours of hard work during training sessions to prepare for this competition and it has paid off with the number of medals they were awarded for their martial arts performance," Salleh said.
"After winning the state titles, Hana, Safiah and Jamilah feel ever more confident to take the next step and has decided to compete in the national championships next month in Melbourne.
"They will be facing the best of the best martial artists in Australia and they look forward to the experience."
