Although most have kept their options open, Crs Rod Kendall, Dallas Tout and Vanessa Keenan have decided early in the race to lock in their names.
Cr Tout has been a representative on local government for a major part of his life and it is his plan to continue to do so.
"I am very passionate about the community and at this stage I do intend to run again at the next local election," he said.
Following her first term as an elected representative, Cr Keenan said it has been a "rewarding experience" and it would be a "privilege" to serve the community again.
In other news:
Her running mate during the last local election, Cr Dan Hayes said he could be interested in throwing his hat in the ring, but will not "be distracted by an election" when there is work to be finished.
"We still have 12 months left of meetings and projects that need our focus," he said.
Mayor Greg Conkey, who has served for seven years, said it was too early to confirm his decision.
"24-hours is a long time in politics and 12 months is an eternity, so I will be making an announcement next year," he said.
Cr Kerry Pascoe, likewise, will wait to make a decision closer to the election.
"It is work that I enjoy and probably will continue .. but I will make that decision six months out," he said.
Cr Tim Koschel is undecided, but might consider running on a ticket to support others looking to win a seat at the council table.
Cr Paul Funnell has "no idea" at this stage. And Cr Yvonne Braid is "thinking very hardly" about her decision after continually serving since 2008.
"I had a great team last time and I will check with them, but I certainly will not be doing this for any political persuasion," Cr Braid said.
The election has been scheduled for September 12 next year.
