MATER Dei Catholic College will defend their Creed and Shipard Shield titles in next week's finals, but not before their respective dynasties came within a whisker of ending in Wednesday's semis.
Winners of six of the last seven Shipard Shields, the Mater Dei girls pulled off a great escape against Wagga High with two late goals.
A Tamara Cochrane goal appeared to be enough to get Wagga High home. But with just seconds left in regular time a Brandy Nicholson shot was deflected away by Wagga High keeper Charlotte Waring, outstanding all night, before Mater Dei sub Clare Arragon swooped to score the equaliser.
Mater Dei's Tia Lyons then scored the golden goal early in extra time to send the defending champions through to the decider.
They will take on Pool B winners The Riverina Anglican College, who ended Kooringal's long run of final appearances with a tough 1-0 victory.
A Layla Almatore goal in the first half was enough for TRAC to seal a final spot, and a place in Pool A next season.
Traditional rivals Mater Dei and Wagga High, winners of the past six Creed Shields between them, will meet again in the decider but not before surviving semi final scares of their own.
A Luke Stevens free kick in the first half gave Mater Dei a 1-0 halftime lead, before a Matt Moffat penalty and Ned Evans goal gave Kooringal High School a 2-1 advantage with just three minutes left.
But a solo effort from Stevens, then a golden goal from Cameron Weir early in extra time, saw them progress.
In the second semi Wagga High advanced against Kildare Catholic College 4-2 on penalties after scores were locked 1-all after extra time.
Irish Freemantle gave Kildare the lead early in the second half before Wagga High found a late equaliser.
"The girls were especially lucky. They had a lot of play during the night but didn't make the most of their opportunities in front of goal," Mater Dei sports coordinator Nathan Irvine said.
"They were definitely thrilling games.
"I think if might be the first time TRAC have made the (Shipard Shield) final, certainly since I've been running it it's always been Mater Dei and Kooringal (in the final)."
