Durable pair Hangin' With Willy and Willy White Socks ensured Sutherland started the new racing season on the right note, helping him to a double.
Willy White Socks ($3.70) flew home for Tyler Schiller to win the Tooheys New Benchmark 58 Handicap (1800m), before Nick Souquet burst through late on Hangin' With Willy ($4.20) to win the Tooheys Extra Dry Benchmark 58 Handicap (1400m).
Wagga apprentice Josh Richards also started the season with a winning double, courtesy of Tocatchacod ($4.20) and Thistledo ($3.90).
Richards will hope to continue his form when he rides Squidensquizz in Monday's $32,000 Forbes Cup (1600m).
Sutherland will have a two-pronged attack in the Forbes Cup, led by last-start winner Genteman Max and My Maher.
