The Lions' showed they had enough depth to overcome four late withdrawals as they ran out comfortable winners over the Bulldogs, 16.6 (102) to 9.14 (68) at Ganmain Sportsground.

Heading into the danger game on the back of three losses from their past four outings, GGGM were slow to find their rhythm in a scrappy affair.

But the Lions came to life midway through the second quarter, kicking six goals in the space of 16 minutes to establish a 33-point half-time lead.

The third-quarter belonged to the Bulldogs, who replied with five of the next seven goals, and got as close as seven points.

With the game there to be won, the Lions sprung back into the action, kicking the first four goals of the final term to eventually run out 35-point winners.

GGGM coach Christin Macri was pleased to see his team get back to somewhere near their best.

"We needed a good turnaround from last week, obviously, and spoke about the last three weeks of the year being more consistent in our effort and energy and the way we play our footy and it turned out a little bit patchy today but we still kicked 16 goals and played pretty good footy," Macri said.

"We had a lull there in the third quarter but they're a young side and once young guys get their tails up, they play some good footy and they did that. Thankfully the boys responded after three-quarter-time and put it to bed."

A number of the Lions' 'lesser likes' stood tall at important times on Sunday.

Michael Rothnie played his best game for the Lions. He was strong over the ball and kicked a couple of goals in the second term as the home team got going.

Matt Knagge won plenty of the ball, while James Funcane and Sam McCready were lively in attack and kicked three goals each.

Macri believes the contributions of those players will only help the Lions moving forward.

"We had late changes yesterday and today with injury and illness. It was pleasing to see some other guys hit the scoreboard and other guys stand up and be in our best players," he said.

"That's important for us as a footy club and a team because you just can't rely on your top five or six every week, you need other guys stepping up. That's good for them too because now they can feel that bit of confidence, it will certainly help them going forward."

The only negative for the Lions was a calf injury to defender Dylan Cook.

Pat Voss impressed for Turvey Park with four goals, while Nathan Byrne was strong in the ruck in an entertaining battle with GGGM opponent Jacob Olsson.
