A female police officer has been charged with the unlawful distribution of intimate images and will appear in court in Albury later in the year.

Officers from Murray River Police District started an investigation into the images earlier in July.
The a 31-year-old female senior constable, attached to a Southern Region command, was issued a future court attendance notice at about 2.30pm on Wednesday.
She has been charged with the single offence of intentionally distribute intimate image without consent.

The law was passed in NSW in 2017 as a way of criminalising the sharing of explicit photographs, known as "revenge porn".
The maximum jail sentence is three years and a fine of $11,000.
The police officer is due to face Albury Local Court on September 10.
