Curgenven will miss the clash with CSU at Beres Ellwood Oval on Saturday to deal with a hip issue and is among a plethora of changes following their loss to Griffith last week.
With Jayden Stanton back in the side Hamish Wrafter shifts to fullback to cover Curgenven, Eddie Lagaali is back at inside centre in the place of Trevor William while Thomas Jennings is back on the wing.
Wagga City haven't won in their last four games to slip to fifth and Curgenven wants to hit back to get their finals ambitions back on track.
"In the last few weeks we've seen a few of the results with Griffith and Albury winning putting us under a bit of pressure so we've got to make sure we get the win this week," Curgenven said.
He thought the side was out muscled, particularly in the second half of the 48-18 loss.
CSU are yet to win, but after pushing Tumut last week Curgenven doesn't want his side to underestimate their rivals.
"Obviously they are a lot better side than what everyone is giving them credit for as they ran Tumut for 60 minutes and nearly won," he said.
"We can't think of this as an easy win, but need to make sure we do all the basics well to actually get the win."
Wagga City are just two points behind third-placed Griffith but only nine points separate five clubs gunning for the last two finals spots with six games to play.
