Metcalfe made the move to Wyong last week where she will join the Denham stable on a three-month loan.
Metcalfe has spent the past four years based in Wagga, predominantly with trainer Doug Vickers.
She jumped at the opportunity to move to a provincial base.
"It was time for a change," Metcalfe said.
"I was lucky enough to get an opportunity and I jumped at it.
"I wanted to go and try somewhere else and Jason (Shultz) said to me I know where you can go and it went from there."
Metcalfe was put in touch with Denham and from there things moved quickly.
She travelled to Wyong to trial some horses for Denham on May 22 and moved there the following week.
"I could not be more excited," Metcalfe said.
Metcalfe, who has ridden 67 career winners, said her immediate goal is to out-ride her country claim.
"It would be nice to out-ride my country claim," she said.
"Hopefully I can learn a bit from the big boys up here I guess. It would be nice to ride a few provincial winners as well."
Metcalfe kicked off her time in Wyong with two rides for her boss at Taree on Friday.
She had two rides at Newcastle on Saturday and will also feature in the Racing NSW Rising Star Series at Randwick on Monday where she has the ride on the David Pfieffer-trained The Party Girl.
Metcalfe said she will miss her time in Wagga and is particularly appreciative of Vickers' time and efforts.
"I had a great time in Wagga and made a lot of friends there," she said.
"I love Dougy. I think he's a champion. I love him and he was the biggest help to me.
"It's just the right time to move on to the next stage."
