The 20-year-old scored a goal in the early stages of each half to secure his first Pascoe Cup brace, and a vital three points for the Sharks in the top four battle.
The teams entered the match level on points in second spot, but Lake Albert defended stoically in the second half to clinch the win.
Although both goals were simple tap-ins, it was just reward for Trevaskis after he caused Wagga United plenty of headaches down the right flank.
In the third minute a mishandle from young Wagga United keeper Josh Norman presented Trevaskis with an easy finish.
But Wagga United needed just nine minutes to find an equaliser through a superb 30-yard, first time strike from Adam Holmes.
Lake Albert created the winner three minutes after half-time when some nice build-up play from Cam Mavor found an unmarked Trevaskis at the far post.
He did a really good job of setting that up, all I did was tap it in," Trevaskis said.
"The team did so well today and fought til the end. I've only scored one other (first grade) goal, so it was great to get that (brace)."
Trevaskis played some games during Lake Albert's unbeaten run to the title last year, but has secured a regular starting spot this season.
He said the Sharks have their hunger back after making up for a sluggish start to their premiership defence with three straight wins.
"We've had our first defeats in so long, but it's been good to bounce back from that and show we're still strong," he said.
Wagga City coach Travis Weir said his team was unlucky not to come away with a result, pointing to a lack of patience as critical.
"We played a different formation this week and it took a bit to get used to," he said.
"We deserved something out of the game, definitely, but they defended really well and we weren't patient enough in the right areas."
Weir said Norman should hold his head high despite his mistake after a strong campaign thus far.
"He pulled off some good saves and is developing really well, we all make mistakes," he said.
It is the ideal preparation for Lake Albert before their top-of-the-table battle with unbeaten Hanwood at Rawlings Park next round.
In other results Tumut beat Young 3-2 at home and Tolland accounted for Cootamundra 3-1.
The South Wagga-Henwood Park and Leeton United-Hanwood clashes have been deferred to Tuesday.
