Four unanswered goals towards the end of the first quarter proved a match-winning period for North Wagga on Saturday, as the Saints saw off a depleted Coleambally 12.11 (83) to 8.7 (55) at McPherson Oval.

After an even first 15 minutes, the home side changed a 7-7 scoreline to a 25-point lead by the first break, and then protected the four-goal margin throughout.
In fact, neither side could put together more than two goals in a row for the rest of the game, but, with Tom Bennetts and Cayden Winter strong in the middle, Saints had a firm grasp of the four premiership points.
"Our pressure was good early but dropped away a bit. The last three quarters were a bit of a wrestle, really but it never really felt like we were in danger," Saints coach Kirk Hamblin said.
"The main positive for us was the way we moved the ball, and I felt we controlled the tempo of the game and delivered the ball well into our forward line."
Troy Curtis kicked three goals and James Morris and Hamblin two each. Coming off a representative bye and heading into a club bye, the coach is pleased with their start to the season, with midfielder Guy Ward and forward Dayne Hancock due back next game, against Temora.
"If I could've taken 5-and-1 at the start of the year, I would have," Hamblin said.
"I'm really happy with the start. I don't think we're near our best football yet but I'm happy with how we're going."
The Saints' only loss is to the unbeaten East Wagga-Kooringal. They sit second, ahead of Temora and Marrar on percentage.
Co-coach Luke Hillier was strong for the Blues through the middle along with Curtis Steele and Todd Clark was good at the back.
Coleambally were without speedsters Raven Marika and Shaun Light as well as a key back and key forward in Dean Pound and Dwayne Weetra, and a shoulder injury to Tom Groves is a concern.
The Blues (1-and-4) are seventh, behind CSU on percentage. They face the Northern Jets and Marrar in the next two weeks.
