AFL NSW-ACT have combined with the NSW Australian Football Historical Society to select a team purely based on the state's talent from 1880 to now.
It will be unveiled at a lavish function at the Carbine Club of NSW's AFL lunch at the Hyatt Regency in Sydney.
Former West Coast and Sydney Swans chairman Richard Colless has convened the project and believes Riverina football fans will be proud of their representation in the team.
"I don't think people in the Riverina are going to be all that disappointed," Colless said.
"I think Wagga is probably going to end up being the dominant source of players but up to a point, it should be.
"Some of those guys who played in Wagga leagues would have come from outlying areas, I understand that, but when you look at the size of it compared to a lot of other regional towns, it always punches above its weight.
"I think AFL supporters in Wagga and surrounding areas will be pretty pleased with the team."
Colless was joined on the selection panel by legendary journalist Mike Sheahan, former player and now media commentator Gerard Healy, AFL commissioner Gabrielle Trainor, AFL NSW-ACT chief executive Sam Graham and respected historians Rod Gillett, Miles Wilks and Ian Granland.
Colless said the selection process was not easy.
"The difference between picking a team to play next week and a team that straddles three centuries is how do you compare a guy that was a gun in 1910 in a much smaller competition, in let's say the SANFL, versus the gun in the AFL, which is a consolidation of all of those senior competitions," Colless explained.
"Having said that, you can't take it on and then bitch about it but it's very complicated and the reality is there will probably be some very disappointed people and some people that take issue with it. But what we've tried to do is, from say the 60s onwards, relied on the eye witness expertise of not only Healy and Sheahan but a whole bunch of other people that they have relied on.
"We've done an enormous amount of archival newspaper analysis and also created a ratings system."
Players must have played a minimum of 100 games in the AFL, Victorian Football League (VFL), South Australian National Football League (SANFL) or West Australian Football League (WAFL) to be eligible for selection.
A Riverina AFL Team of the Century was named back in 2015.
