The competition's leading goalscorer and best and fairest winner Rex Gallaher was superb for the Octopuses in the grand final, scoring all five of their goals in regulation time, including the equaliser with just seconds left.
But player of the final Mooney and the Dolphins held their nerve in the penalty shootout, sealing back-to-back premierships after eight shots.
"It was an absolute cracker of a game, pretty low scoring and they got a goal right at the death to level the scores," Maloney said.
"It was an emotional roller coaster. We went through five (mandatory) shots in the shootout and it was still even, then three shots into sudden death we managed to get victory.
"Nathanael Mooney was the main reason we won, it's probably the best I've seen him play."
In the women's A-grade clash the Raiders sealed a fourth straight premiership with a dominant 9-3 victory over Octopuses, with Lauren Macleod named player of the final.
The Octopuses had better luck in the B-grade decider, finishing on the right side of another penalty shootout to prevail 11-10, while Dolphins proved too strong for Octopuses to win the B-grade women's final 4-1.
The men's C-grade decider saw Dolphins' potent attack prove too strong for the Octopuses 10-4.
