The Magpies received a late boost this week when a clearance went in for Carey to return to Victoria Park.
Carey only spent two seasons in the Farrer League - 2015 and 2016 - but was quick to earn a reputation as an imposing key forward with a knack for standing tall in big games, including 10 goals in a final against North Wagga.
That was bettered by four goals in the decider against East Wagga-Kooringal despite breaking a bone on in his lower leg in the first quarter, an effort that entered Carey in premiership folklore at the club.
He produced some more grand final heroics helping Tullibigeal to a Northern Riverina premiership last year and will now return to TRYC to reunite with good mate Tom Yates, the Magpies coach.
Carey, 35, will line-up in the Magpies' season opener against Northern Jets on Saturday at Victoria Park and Yates is happy to have the big man back in black and white.
"It was good. It's sort of been on the cards," Yates said.
"Obviously we all know each other pretty well. Casey (Hillary) and I have stirred him up for a while. He's coaching the juniors down at Albury and lost a bit of weight too so I think he's half keen to come back and play."
Carey co-coached TRYC alongside Andrew Clarke in his last year at the club.
With commitments coaching in Albury and an ageing body, Carey will be managed throughout the season.
"We'll just see how it goes," Yates said.
"He's pretty busy coaching the kids, and he's got a few other things going on as well. Whether we get all of the games out of him or however many, we'll just see."
Carey's signing caps off a productive off-season for TRYC, who missed finals last season.
They have welcomed former AFL footballer Ben Fixter on board, along with a host of young players among the 14 additions to their list.
Yates believes Carey was just what the Magpies needed to top their recruiting off.
"He will be handy because other than that, we've got young Jack (Driscoll) whose only 17, then you've got Benny Fixter who has come to the club and can play up forward as well, so we don't really have massive, imposing targets down there," he said.
"It will be good to have the big fella down there."
Carey won't be the only spearhead looking to make an impression at Victoria Park on Saturday.
The Jets will unveil new recruit Matt Wallis, who crossed over from Temora this week.
Both clubs will have a number of new faces run out in round one.
Nine of the Magpies recruits will line up against the Jets, who will be happy to see Lenny Haddrill back at his home club for the first time since 2014.
