Kildare maintained their undefeated start to the schoolboy competition with an 'ugly' win over their arch-rival in the second round of the competition.
After an even beginning, Kildare got up top with two tries in the final two minutes of the first half, to give them a 20-4 half-time lead.
Sam Macklan crossed in the third minute of the second half to extend the lead the lead to 24-4 and it was the last points of the match.
Mater Dei dominated possession for the final 20 minutes but were unable to add to their tally.
Kildare coach Matthew Conn said his team's defence laid the platform for victory.
"I'm happy with the result given we played 20 minutes of footy," Conn said.
"They were keen, they came at us, we came at them and it turned into that kind of game of footy.
"Our defence was probably the winner on the night. We're lucky we got points on the bird early."
Conn is happy with how the first week of the competition has unfolded for his team.
"When you can play ugly footy and get away with the result, and we were lucky with the amount of footy they had and that they made mistakes," he said.
"Back to the training paddock now with plenty of work to do and good luck to these boys going at each other again, Mater and Wagga High, and we'll see who we come up with next week."
Meantime, Mount Austin High School made an electric start to the competition with a 38-12 win over Kooringal High School on Wednesday.
Kooringal led 12-10 at half-time but Mount Austin ran in five unanswered tries in the second half to keep their Hardy Shield hopes alive.
Mount Austin lock James Morgan was the star with a hat-trick of tries.
Mount Austin co-coach Rick Campbell was proud of the way his team finished the game off.
"It was great. Very happy," Campbell said.
"They worked hard and there was a couple of individual efforts that stood out. Jimmy Morgan was great and so was Jack Stewart.
"There was a couple of guys who were pretty inexperienced but put their hand up and really dug in.
"They've got some improvements of course, especially in the first half, they were a bit lacklustre but they came home really well in the second half.
"It's a young team but there is definitely some talent there. It was a really great experience for them and I'm very proud of them."
