The Warriors and Turvey Park will meet in Saturday’s major semi-final with the Warriors going into the match holding a 2-1 advantage, their fourth meeting being drawn.
At their most recent clash the Warriors won 6-3, with Turvey scoring all of their runs in one innings and the Warriors scoring in only two digs.
To effect the opposite end result, Turvey will have to do their best to minimise the Strong Warriors batters safe hits.
To do this ‘mistake-free’ fielding will be paramount for Turvey Park. The Turvey fielders should set their sights on targeting the power batters of the Warriors lineup.
But that will be no easy task. Most consider state player, Montana Kearnes as the Warriors most dangerous batter, but ranked above her on batting averages are Jess Swaysland and Carmel Hutchinson. Both Swaysland and Kearnes can not only slog the ball past the opposition’s outfielders but advance runners with well executed bunts.
The two other Kearnes, Jane and Layhnee, have had poor seasons with the bat, by their standards, and Turvey will have to be ready for them as they set to change that situation.
Going on previous games between the two, Turvey is sure to have plenty of ball to field in the left field region. Whoever is at left field for Turvey will know they’ve played.
In defence the Warriors are complete. They have their choice of four pitchers, namely Kristy Tennison, Carmel Hutchinson, Jane Kearnes and Montana Kearnes to pitch to catcher, Sam O’Neill, but it’s likely that coach, Justin Kearnes, will start with Montana Kearnes.
Turvey Park will look to their own strong batters to counter the Warriors attack.
Fronting the charge will be lead batter, Sarah Carter, the consistent Belinda Dennis and power batters, Jade Olsen and Amanda Gooden.
Should they all manage hits of which they are capable, then the outcome is looking more favourable for Turvey.
Turvey could well spring some selection changes by electing to play some tried and proven young players.
Time will tell.
