The monthly average for rainfall in December is 45.6mm, so it is possible that Wagga will exceed that in a single day.
Nigel Smedley from the Bureau of Meteorology’s Wagga office said the prediction was for a 100 per cent chance of between 20mm and 50mm of rain on Thursday, with a lower chance of a few more millimetres falling on Friday.
A storm on Wednesday night brought falls of up to 20mm on parts of Wagga, but Mr Smedley said the falls were “very hit and miss”.
He said while Forest Hill, where the bureau’s office is located, recorded 20mm, other parts of Wagga had received no rain at all.
The rain is expected to bring a drop in temperature, with Thursday’s predicted maximum at 29 degrees and Friday’s an even milder 25.
Mr Smedley said that by the weekend, the weather would become warmer and drier again.
