About 11.15pm on Tuesday, crew members from the Forest Hill and Ladysmith rural fire brigades were called to a single vehicle fire on Elizabeth Avenue, Gregadoo.
In a statement, the Forest Hill brigade said the scene was made safe with the help of rain.
“Thankfully, last night’s 20mm downpour rendered the grass too wet to burn and the fire was contained to the roadside,” the statement reads.
“It didn’t escape into the adjacent paddocks.”
Following the fire containment, the incident was passed to the Riverina Police District for investigation.
The number of car fires Wagga now nears 130 for the year.
The previous car fire before the incident overnight occurred on December 9 in Ashmont.
Anyone with more information about the latest incident is urged to contact Wagga Police Station on 6922 2599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
