The Team of the Year defender suffered a potentially season-ending anterior cruciate ligament injury last week after twisting his knee and the early prognosis isn’t good.
“I wasn’t even doing much, was just walking along and it twisted awkwardly,” Weir said.
“I’m seeing a specialist on Wednesday to determine exactly what has happened … but it looks like I’ve just done my ACL.”
It’s the latest in a string of injury concerns for Weir, who returned to United last season after a stint with Junee to take the captain’s armband under brother Travis.
Weir has already begun canvassing surgical options with a view to return at some stage next season but stopped short of a bold recovery declaration.
“We still need to see what kind of surgery is needed and when it can be operated on, so right now I’d only be 10 per cent confident in saying I’ll be able to play next year.”
“I won’t be doing any pre-season at all, that’s for sure.
“Right now, I’m just focused on organising my rehab and booking in physios and all that stuff.
“I daresay I’ll be more focused on work and things like that as well, so definitely no pre-season.”

Weir’s absence would leave a gaping hold in United’s line up as the club looks to build on a improved 2018 campaign.
The men in orange overcame a sluggish start to the year and finished in sixth place before stunning third-placed Tolland in their elimination final.
Weir was a key figure in that victory, scoring United’s opening goal, and directed play superbly from centre back to steer his side to a 4-2 win.
United’s season ended a week later at the hands of eventual premiers Lake Albert, however, the club has continued their off-season recruitment drive with the acquisition of Jake Ploenges from Henwood Park.
