Angland was taken to hospital in Hong Kong after falling from Go Beauty Go, who knuckled when coming out of the barriers.
Initial reports said Angland was conscious and responsive and was set to undergo tests.
Angland’s manager Andrew Northbridge confirmed that Tye was to undergo surgery on Monday.
“He is currently hospitalised in Hong Kong where he is due to undergo surgery today,” Northbridge tweeted.
“More information regarding his injuries will be known in the coming days. Erin has flown to Hong Kong to be with him.”
The Wantabadgery wonder made a one-off return to a Hong Kong meeting on Sunday due to a shortage of jockeys through suspension and injury.
Angland rode a winner at the meeting, Follow Me ($1.85), for John Size before his fall in the ninth race.
