Former Wagga bowler Cameron Suidgeest and Ryan Brown had Riverina in a good position early with Newcastle slipping to 4-44 early before a 180-run partnership between Jed Dickson (98) and Adrian Chad (88) helped the favourites to a big score.
They finished their 20 overs at Berry Sports Complex on Friday at 9-253.
Riverina struggled in response.
Opening the batting, South Wagga’s Brayden Ambler was the only Riverina batsmen to cause any headaches for Newcastle.
He top scored with 39 off 78 balls.
Ambler was the seventh wicket to fall before Riverina were bowled out in the 33rd over 101.
They will look to hit back against ACT Southern Districts on Saturday before playing Greater Illawarra on Sunday.
