The team at Poolwerx Wagga are celebrating their success after taking out two top awards at the national awards night.
Poolwerx Wagga owner, Graham Cheney, was named the franchise’s national pool and spa technician of the year, while retail manager, Mel McPherson, was named Poolwerx’s national retail salesperson of the year.
Mr Cheney said he took over the Poolwerx business five years ago and has doubled sales figures in that time.
“I started with the retail store and one van and we now have three vans and two full-time pool and spa technicians and Mel and three other part time staff in the shop,” he said.
Mr Cheney and his technicians service an area of around 150 kilometres in radius and they have about 150 regular mobile customers and an additional 200 mobile customers during the summer months.
“We also do quite a bit of commercial work servicing a school pool, a retirement village pool, four motel pools and we do repair work on the pool at the defence base,” he said.
Mr Cheney said his business growth had been driven by his commitment to being a one-stop shop for his customers.
“We do a variety of different jobs, including refurbishment of old pools, leak detection, repairs and replacement of pool and spa equipment, warranty repairs and we also sell and repair spas and spa equipment,” he said.
This year, Poolwerx Wagga retail manager, Mel McPherson, took out the national retail salesperson of the year award for the second year in a row.
Ms McPherson has been with Poolwerx Wagga for the past four years and along with three casual staff, looks after a customer base of around 1200 pool and spa owners.
“I have a retail background and I have been able to develop my retail skills while I have been here through interstate training,” Ms McPherson said.
“I am able to pass my knowledge of the pool industry on to my customers.”
Thanks to their resounding success and continued growth, Mr Cheney is looking to grow his business in the near future and will add a new technician to the team.
