Turvey Park started the Wagga Softball season in fine form with an impressive 8-5 win over the reigning premiers, South Wagga Warriors.

Turvey batted first and with the aid of safe hits to Jane Wadley, Amanda Gooden and Jade Olsen, Wadley was the season’s first run.
Kristy Tenison began the Warriors’ innings with a safe hit, but the next three bats were regulation dismissals, leaving the Warriors scoreless.
A quick “three up- three down” saw no addition to Turvey’s score, but the Warriors stole the lead, when a combination of hits to Simone Jorgensen, Carmel Hutchinson and Tenison and careless Turvey fielding allowed two runs to Warriors.
Neither team scored in their third innings, but Turvey edged ahead with two more runs before shutting out the Warriors in the bottom of the fourth.
Turvey’s runs eventuated from hits to Olsen, Belinda Dennis, Paris Hall, Georgina Carter, Julie-Anne Hallam and Wadley.
There was no addition to the score in the fifth innings, but, after shutting out Turvey in the top of the sixth, the Warriors scored a game-high three runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking a two-run lead into the seventh.
A spirited Turvey Park produced their best in their final dig to add five runs and then shut out the Warriors in the bottom, leaving them 8-5 winners.
Turvey Park will have the bye next round, whilst the Warriors will face Saints who’ll be playing their first match for the season.
